Who we are
DONG Storage owns and operates the Danish natural gas storage facility at Stenlille on Zealand. Stenlille Gas Storage Facility is one of two natural gas storage facilities in Denmark. The other Danish natural gas storage facility, Ll. Torup, is owned and operated by Energinet.dk Gaslager and is located at Viborg in Jutland.
Our purpose
Stenlille Gas Storage Facility is used by storage customers to store natural gas. A typical purchaser of natural gas consumes more natural gas in the winter than in the summer. Natural gas is however usually supplied into the Danish natural gas system at a relatively constant rate. The excess natural gas is therefore normally injected into the gas storage facility in the summer and withdrawn in the winter. Storage customers that transport natural gas on behalf of gas suppliers, use the gas storage facility to match natural gas deliveries into the Danish natural gas system with the consumers' final purchase of natural gas.
In addition to providing gas storage capacity to commercial storage customers, we provide required storage capacity for the transmission company’s management of security of supplies and securing of the physical balance of the total Danish natural gas system in pursuance of Section 15 of the Natural Gas Supply Act. The transmission company’s storage requirement for management of these assignments has priority in the allocation of the available permanent gas storage capacity.
Our organisational position
DONG Storage A/S (business registration number 29851247) is a legal entity in the DONG Energy Group (DONG Energy A/S). DONG Storage is a part of the Sales & Distribution business unit. Commercial storage conditions are managed by the Gas Storage Market department. The physical operation of the gas storage facility is managed by the Gas Treatment & Storage department, which in addition to operation of the Stenlille Gas Storage Facility also manages the operation of the gas treatment plant in Nybro, where gas production from The North Sea is brought ashore and is processed.
